The government offers 30,000 France-Germany Passes

The government has just revealed the outlines of its operation allowing young French people to travel for free to Germany by train. 30,000 Passes will be offered to 18-27 year olds from France who will be able to cross the Rhine from July.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, France and Germany announced to offer 60,000 Passes to 18-27 year olds from both countries. Within France, nearly 30,000 passes are offered to young people who wish to cross the German border by train.

More than a Pass allowing you to travel across the Rhine, the France-Germany Pass allows unlimited travel throughout German territory for 7 days, always by train. The government explains: “ each young person can decide on their program and thus choose the duration of their stay, the routes and the cities visited, to discover Germany, its culture and its youth. »

Everything you need to know about the France-Germany Pass

From today, you can get your France-Germany Pass on the SNCF website or on the dedicated site: Passefrancegermany.fr. Please note, places are limited! In fact, 15,000 Passes will be reserved for all French people aged 18 to 27 with a “first come, first served” system. On the other hand, 15,000 other France-Germany Passes will be reserved for certain French people: 5,000 for scholarship students, the remaining 10,000 Passes will go directly to apprentices and young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

For Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, this is the ideal opportunity to travel and discover another culture, via a less polluting mode of transport. “ Traveling in Europe is an unparalleled opportunity for young French people. (…) I am delighted to see new travel possibilities appearing today with this unique Franco-German Pass. So that questions of resources cannot stand in the way of this discovery, we are proud that 5,000 of these Passes are primarily intended for scholarship students.. »
