The French deeptech startup Pathway, the first Python framework to easily build data products, recently announced that it had raised $4.5 million in funding. Business Cool spoke with Zuzanna Stamirowska, CEO of Pathway.
Everything you need to know about Pathway
Who are you ?
I am Zuzanna Stamirowska, CEO of the French DeepTech startup Pathway.com. I have a master’s degree in economics and public policy from Sciences Po, École Polytechnique and ENSAE, as well as a doctorate in complexity science (CNRS).
While working on my thesis, I noticed that the digitalization of the logistics sector was slowed by the absence of a software infrastructure capable of performing automated reasoning on data flows, in real time. This is what inspired me to create Pathway. During my thesis, I published the reference model for maritime trade forecasting published by the American National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
What does Pathway do?
Pathway is the first Python framework to easily build real-time, responsive data products at scale.
Our first use cases are in the field of logistics, with large groups like La Poste or DB Schenker. Supply chains require complex data processing logic to determine what is “normal,” “abnormal,” and “the new normal.” This is something that COVID and other events like the Suez Canal blockage have highlighted recently.
We found that the world of Machine Learning offered promising models for point and static data. But, at Pathway, we needed to make these models work on constantly changing data, reflecting new events and process updates, on a daily basis, or even down to the minute (or millisecond for the financial industry ).
Today we enable software engineers to focus on developing the logic of the code, without having to worry about how data changes over time. Pathway thus supplants technology like Apache Spark for reactive, real-time data processing.
Pathway fundraising
Why did you raise $4.5 million?
We announced our pre-seed fundraising from the Inovo and Market One Capital funds for a total amount of $4.5 million. We also benefit from the expertise of our business angels, including Roger Crook, former CEO of DHL Global Freight Forwarding, and Łukasz Kaiser, currently at OpenAI in San Francisco.
This fundraising allows us to accelerate our R&D and product roadmap. Pathway has a consolidated base to pursue its user adoption strategy and continue to onboard new customers, deepening our logistics base while expanding use cases, particularly in the financial sector.
What will Pathway look like in 5 years?
We want to become the standard for real-time and responsive data processing!
We want our technology to be the benchmark in Business Intelligence for real-time data and for Pathway to enable the creation of innovative data products, well beyond what we had imagined. This is our ambition by opening the source code to our users!
