James Dyson Award: the Dyson invention competition returns

Are you in engineering school or have you just graduated? The Dyson innovation competition is for you! This year again, the James Dyson Award will reward engineers guided by the values of ecology and sustainable development.

Since 2005, the James Dyson Award has rewarded the best inventors from around the world who wish to address global issues, such as improving health care or environmental issues. Among the innovations carried out by the winners, we find technology capable of improving the recycling of plastic or projects on biomaterials.

Taking environmental issues into account, in a world where the climate crisis is disrupting our daily lives, is at the heart of the James Dyson Award 2023. “ We are looking for young engineers who are strongly inspired to solve problems in a sustainable way, often using less energy and fewer materials, and who want to improve the world with their ideas. Young people have the ideas that can change things for the better, and they should be encouraged “, explains Sir James Dyson.

The James Dyson Award

The James Dyson Award competition is very demanding. You will first be judged by a Dyson engineer and a jury made up of external national figures, before this panel of judges chooses a winner and two finalists for each country. Dyson engineers then draw up an international list made up of 20 projects, the winners of which are defined by Sir James Dyson himself.

Two international winners are chosen: the grand prize winner and the sustainable development winner. They each receive £30,000, or approximately €34,000. The international finalists and national winners win £5,000 (€5,600).

To enter the James Dyson Award and perhaps change the world, all you have to do is apply on the dedicated site. You have until July 2023 to submit your application!
