These Tokyo Olympics are full of surprises and France especially seems to stand out in rowing. After the beautiful gold medal won by Matthieu Androdias (INSA graduate) and Hugo Boucheron, it is the turn of Laura Tarantola and Claire Bové to shine in this discipline!
The two friends have just won a silver medal in rowing, women’s lightweight double sculls. So this is the 9emedal from France and the third in silver. Laura Tarantola confides in Olympics.com : “ When you cross the line, you don’t really know how many there are. And when I see the board (of the results), I say to myself ‘that’s not true, they must have been wrong’. It was a big dream. »
Laura Tarantola’s sporting journey
Laura Tarantola was born in Annemasse in 1994. She started rowing around the age of 14 and it was at 18 that she began the first international competitions. In 2012, she participated in the world rowing championships in quadruple sculls, but finished 14e.
It was from 2015 that Laura Tarantola began collecting medals. She will arrive 2e in lightweight quadruple sculls at the under-23 world championships. In 2016, she won the bronze medal in the quadruple sculls at the world championships in Rotterdam, in the under-23 category. But it was in 2018 that the consecration arrived for Laura Tarantola, who was crowned world champion in the lightweight single scull.
The academic and professional career of Laura Tarantola
Like Matthieu Androdias, Laura Tarantola did not trade her studies for her sport. In 2012, she obtained her ES baccalaureate with good honors. She was then a student at the Lycée Pierre Termier in Grenoble. She immediately joined the IUT2 in Grenoble and trained in law and legal careers.
In 2015, she joined Grenoble École de Management (GEM) to follow the RMC (Marketing and Sales Manager) training. She then continued in 2017 with a more traditional Grande École Program. She will graduate in 2019.
In parallel with her studies, Laura Tarantola obviously completed several internships, first in a small consulting firm, then with a notary. In 2015, when she joined the Grenoble business school, she continued her professional experience in the marketing department of several companies such as AS-FOOD International or Lolë. Since obtaining her diploma, she has been a QVT project manager at SCNF Voyageurs.
Claire Bové’s sporting journey
Claire Bové was born in 1998 in Aubergenville. She is the daughter of Christine Bové, herself a top athlete. She also won the silver medal at the world championships in Milan in 1988 in the lightweight double sculls. After Claire Bové won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Christine Bové said of her daughter that she was “ much better than me “.
Claire Bové started rowing in 2011, at the age of 13. Four years later, she began to compete in international competitions and ranked 3rd.e at the European Junior Championships, in double sculls, and 4e at the junior world championships, in quadruple sculls.
Claire Bové has a fine track record. She was vice-world champion in lightweight double sculls in 2019 and vice-European champion in lightweight single scull in 2021. Alongside her sport, she also studied physiotherapy.
