Barometer 2024: Happiness at work seen by young people aged 18-24

The ISC Paris Group, in collaboration with the BVA Xsight research institute, has just revealed the results of the second edition of its barometer on the happiness at work of young people aged 18 to 24. This survey, carried out among a representative sample of 1,100 young people, including 532 young workers nationally, highlights professional aspirations and perceptions on gender equality in the world of work..

The criteria for happiness at work

According to the ISC Paris-BVA Xsight barometer, remuneration remains a determining element in the choice of a company for 44% of young people. In reality, 35% of them consider that remuneration is a sign of professional success. The atmosphere at work is also a major criterion, cited as a priority by 32% of young people. Furthermore, the balance between professional and personal life has become crucial, with 43% of young people attaching great importance to free time and 53% favoring flexibility of schedules to reconcile the two aspects of their life.

Employee well-being

What emerges from this survey is that young people are showing a growing interest in well-being at work. And for good reason, 86% of them believe that a successful company must ensure the well-being of its employees, thus highlighting the importance of this aspect. On the other hand, the company’s societal commitments seem much less decisive for them.

What about gender equality?

The barometer reveals a mixed perception of gender equality in the professional world. While 61% of young people believe that salaries are not equivalent between men and women, young women feel particularly wronged, with 76% of them regretting a lower salary for an equivalent position. Furthermore, only 37% of young women consider that it is as easy for a woman as for a man to find a position, and only 39% of them think that the same goes for access to a job. CDI.

Job satisfaction

Despite some reservations about pay and stress at work, young workers say they are generally satisfied with their professional integration. They particularly appreciate their autonomy (86%), the good atmosphere (83%), and the balance between personal and professional life (76%).

The study highlights a growing interest in entrepreneurship, with 29% of young people aspiring to become self-employed. In addition, 14% plan to continue their career internationally. On the other hand, the public sector seems less attractive, and large French companies are struggling to attract young people.

More assertive professional mobility?

Still according to this same study, we notice a striking trend which lies in the desire of young people to change their professional trajectory, from their first experience. In fact, 47% are already considering a change, highlighting their ability to adapt and seek deeper meaning in their work.

In fact, the 2024 barometer “Happiness at work as seen by young people aged 18-24” reveals the importance given by them to remuneration, well-being at work, and for some of them to equality between women and men. In addition, the barometer also highlights a desire for mobility and personal accomplishment in their career.
