Amazon covers tuition fees for 750,000 employees

In the United States, labor is very scarce. The country is indeed facing an unprecedented shortage of personnel. To attract and retain its employees, Amazon made a big decision: finance tuition fees for 750,000 American employees. This professional training plan will cost the company more than a billion euros.

Amazon’s ambition? Restore your image

The scandals surrounding Amazon have followed one another. The reputation of the e-commerce giant precedes it, as many employees attest. This concerns, for example, the spying on the mouse movements of its employees or the controversy surrounding dismissals decreed by an algorithm which rates the work of employees.

Today, Amazon is committed to improving the daily lives of its employees and announces that more than 750,000 American employees will be able to benefit from full financing of their studies or professional training. This measure is part of Amazon’s desire to attract and retain its employees. The company plans to invest a total of $1.2 billion by 2025.

This announcement coincides with the economic recovery which is still threatened by a particular event: a serious labor shortage in the United States. This particularly concerns jobs with high arduousness and low pay. “Amazon is now the largest job creator in the United States and we know that investing in free training for our teams can have a huge impact on hundreds of thousands of families across the country “, explains Dave Clark, head of global consumption at Amazon, to the British media BBC.

A major investment for more than 750,000 employees

From January 2022, Amazon will launch its program Career Choice. It concerns employees who have been with the company for at least three months. The latter will be able to benefit from aid which aims to cover up to 95% of professional training costs. This concerns courses, textbooks, secondary school courses or improvement courses in English.

Amazon will fund employees’ registration fees and tuition upfront rather than offering them a refund. This prevents employees from having to advance them to educational establishments. Amazon employees will have access to annual funds for as long as they remain with the company, with no limit on seniority. Amazon estimates that 750,000 employees in the United States or Canada will benefit from this vast plan. Most are affiliated primarily with order preparation depots.

Amazon Career Choice : Three new training programs

In addition to this major plan, Amazon is adding the arrival of three new training programs allowing employees to acquire new skills in the areas of data center maintenance and technology, IT, user experience and research design.

Dave Clark, CEO Worldwide Consumer at Amazon, points out that the program Career Choice, launched 10 years ago now, aims to “ removing the biggest barriers to continuing education — time and money — and now we’re expanding it even further to pay full tuition and add several new areas of study “.

In the French market, Amazon recently announced a job forum to recruit 450 employees. Named “Career Day”, this event dedicated to employment highlights the talents that allow the giant to establish itself as the key player in e-commerce in France and around the world. It also focuses on employment and recruitment processes within the group. But that’s not all! Amazon also offers conferences around themes that go far beyond the world of Tech, focusing on entrepreneurship, cooking, etc.
