Three graduates and students from Grandes Écoles once again offered France a great medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. It was during the women’s team saber fencing final that they distinguished themselves to win silver. Focus on their sporting and academic journey.
This is a new medal for France and for Manon Brunet, student at EDHEC, currently in BBA. She has just won a silver medal in fencing, in the women’s team sabre, after obtaining the bronze medal a few days ago.
The sporting and academic career of Manon Brunet
Manon Brunet discovered a passion for fencing at the age of eight. She joined the hope center of the Orléans Fencing Circle at just 14 years old. She notably distinguished herself during the world championships, as an individual. She has indeed won the gold medal several years in a row: in 2016, in 2017, in 2018 and twice in 2019.
On the academic side, Manon Brunet joined the BBA Online of EDHEC in 2017, after obtaining a BTS. She is currently still a student and benefits from the facilities for high-level athletes offered within the business school.
Charlotte Lembach, world fencing champion and student at EDHEC
Charlotte Lembach is also world fencing champion, but in teams. She won this title in 2018. Born in 1988, in Strasbourg, she has been practicing fencing for many years. However, it was in 2013 that she really started to make a name for herself, reaching the podium at the Tianjin World Cup.
Charlotte Lembach’s sporting record is impressive. From 2014, she had a string of podiums and won several bronze and silver medals in individual and team events, until her recognition at the Tokyo Olympics where she shared her silver medal with Manon Brunet and Cécilia Berder.
Charlotte Lembach is one of those athletes who chose to study in higher education, alongside their career. Thus, she completed a DUT Tech de Co at UPEM, then a Bachelor’s degree in organizational management at Paris-Dauphine University, which she obtained with honors.
It was in 2014 that she joined EDHEC. She will first follow the bachelor’s program, specializing in marketing. In 2020, she continued with a master’s degree in marketing from which she will graduate in 2022.
Cécilia Berder journalist and high-level fencer
Cécilia Berder displays an atypical profile. She also studied at Grandes Écoles: the CFJthen ESJ Paris. His ambition? Becoming a journalist, a job that she exercises today at the heart of the Radio France editorial team. In addition to her sporting career, she is also a speaker and talks behind the scenes of life as a high-level athlete: managing emotions, goals, resilience, etc.
On the fencing side, Cécila Berder is also world team champion. She won this title with Charlotte Lembach in 2018. It is on the French scene that the athlete distinguished herself since she was five times French team and individual champion. Her love affair with fencing began when she was seven years old and it is today at the age of 31 that the consecration arrives for Cécilia Berder who has just won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
