SURVEY: 72% of Polytechnique graduates in employment before the end of their studies

Despite a less dynamic job market in 2022, young graduates from École Polytechnique continue to stand out for their strong employability. A look back at the results of the professional integration survey for graduated engineers in 2022.

Above the Grandes Écoles average

Graduates of École Polytechnique, arriving on the job market in 2022, faced a more complex economic context than their predecessors. The year 2021 was marked by an intense post-covid economic recovery with the creation of 1.1 million jobs in France. In 2022, the repercussions of this sudden increase will result in a stabilization of demand. The figures show only 443,000 new jobs. Despite this less favorable context, the young engineers at Polytechnique were able to do well.

One of the striking indicators of this survey is the high rate of graduates having found a job even before completing their studies. Nearly three quarters of 2022 graduates (72%) were already hired at the end of their studies, a figure higher than the average observed in other French major schools. For comparison, the integration survey of graduates of Grandes Écoles for the class of 2022 indicated that 68.6% of students were in post before leaving school.

Six months after graduation, all 2022 graduates from École Polytechnique were employed, with a satisfaction rate of 95% concerning their first professional experience.

A majority of business graduates

Of the 518 engineers in the class, 57% chose to join the private sectorthe majority of them starting their careers in France. Among them, 58% moved towards industry, particularly in the fields of IT and digital (15%), consulting (18%) or banking and insurance (20%). Note that 44% of international graduates, representing 22% of the class, also started their careers in France.

For the 27% who opted to continue their studies, a majority (71%) continued their research in France, while 29% chose universities abroad. Doctoral students mainly focus on disciplines like physics (26%), applied mathematics (21%) and computer science (16%).

Finally, 16% of graduates joined the public sector, mainly integrating the Grand Corps of the State and only 1% turn to entrepreneurship!

Attractive salaries

The survey also highlights attractive remuneration for young graduates. For those hired in a company, average gross annual remunerationexcluding premiums, amounts to 57,000 euros in France (4750 euros per month)which is well above the average for Grandes Écoles graduates, which is 37,601 euros for the class of 2022. As for doctoral students, their gross annual remuneration including bonuses reaches 39,000 euros.

With 73% participation, this survey on the integration of 2022 graduates reflects a fairly representative image of the reality of this promotion. Despite a slowing job market, young graduates from École Polytechnique continue to benefit from strong attractiveness and successful professional integration.
